As a teacher, I believe in giving every student the opportunities they need to meet their full potential through individualized instruction, small group practice, and chances to stretch their knowledge through discovery. An ideal learning environment goes beyond the classroom and incorporates all aspects of the world to show students what they can learn and achieve. The goal for my teaching is to guide my students to becoming lifelong learners that are independent, have a curiosity for knowledge, and possess a growth mindset. 

      As our world becomes more technology focused, I believe students should learn how to prepare for their future with innovative technology collaboration. When used in combination with other multi-modal learning strategies, technology can promote student engagement while providing teachers with data collection that allows specific feedback on the student’s strengths and needs. 

     On a day-to-day basis, I strive to provide my students with a supportive classroom where they feel safe to push the envelope on their learning. While I guide my students through a lesson, I encourage them to use their curiosity to pursue further questions. This was one of my favorite aspects of student teaching, starting a lesson with an essential question/goal and by the end of the lesson we have achieved that goal and gone even deeper in the learning, following the student’s questions or interests. 

     In addition to engaging whole group lessons, I value the importance of small group instruction. This individualized support is key to making sure all students are grasping the concepts in class. The small group format allows students to learn from each other in a welcoming environment that is less overwhelming than sharing with an entire class. I also use small groups to collect data on students progress and needs. I can give immediate and constructive feedback to assist each student in their individual learning needs.

     I believe in giving my students measurable goals that allow them to see their progress. I am passionate about language and literacy instruction, and I love incorporating students to be excited about what they are learning. I promote student led motivation through engaging books, chances to explore different texts, and writing prompts students enjoy.  

     Throughout my education classes, I have realized there is no such thing as a perfect class, student, or teacher. Instead of perfection, I strive for progress, inclusion, and acceptance. As educators, we must show up every day prepared to struggle with our students, earn their trust, and provide them with the quality education every child deserves. I am determined to use my knowledge and experience to create a safe space for students of all abilities, ages, and backgrounds.
